Treating fungal infections- Betta

Question
Hi Chris,

Thank you for all the info on this site- I have learned a lot already by reading previous questions.  I've had my beautiful blue male betta "Louie" for 7 months in a vase (no plant) with glass rocks and a "mountain" for him to hide in.  Ammonia, nitrite, pH levels are unknown.  I use conditioned tap water changed about every 2-3 weeks.  He always has a great bubble nest and is very active.

Today, however, I noticed two white spots (assumed to be fungus) on his face above/between his eyes.  He is still eating well and very active.  How aggressive should I be in treating the fungus?  I read the Easy Meds page which was helpful, but which med would you recommend since there are so many?  I am afraid too much/the wrong meds will make him worse.  I am also concerned because I saw him eat a piece of his waste today!  Will that make him sick?  I will try to warm up his water with a light.  How soon should I start treating with meds?

Thank you very much!
Annie

Answer
Hi Annie;

Fungus Cure or Fungus Eliminator would be good ones to try. Changing the water extra often will help too. Change the water every 3 days for awhile and suck out waste with a turkey baster so he doesn't eat it. Many fish do that. It can't be healthy, but it happens. (Yuck!)

Here are two more disease pages to look at photos of illnesses too, just to be sure of what you are dealing with;
