Your common goldfish, Carassius auratus, can live 20 years or more. It is not at all uncommon to see common goldfish living in aquariums for 10 years. As they get older, their colors begin to dull. The antidote to this is to spend a summer in an outdoor pond, where the combination of sunlight, live foods such as water insects, and algae bring out their colors like nothing you can imagine!

Type in the scientific name in Google (using quotation marks), and you will be surprised how much you can find out about your common goldfish.
