QuestionI have some oranda fish in a pacific 6 foot fish tank. A couple of them seem to float on their backs and I have been told it is swim bladder problems. is there anything i can do?
AnswerHello Ian.
Yes, it does sound like swim bladder. Do they look fat? If they look fat, it could be bloat. I will give you the treatments for both.
SWIM BLADDER INFECTION~
Do NOT feed them for a week to ten days. Also, using sinking food HIGHLY decreases the instance of SBD
BLOAT~
Feed shelled boiled peas for 2 days, and then no food for 3 days. Also, keep the lights off to reduce stress.
Both are usually non fatal, and if treated properly, your fish will make a quick recovery.
Let me know how it goes, or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
~Matt
