Firemouth Cichlids and Babies

Question
I have just noticed about 30/40 baby cichlids swimming at the base of my tank.  Thet are in the middle of the tank, and only seem to be moving within a space of a couple of inches.  At the moment they just look like little tadpoles, about 4 millimeters in length.  Tank size is 39ins(l) x 12(w) x 14(h), and only have 6 adult fish in total, 4 being firemouths.  They are being well guarded by 2 of the firemouths but have no idea what I should be doing in order to try and keep them alive.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Claire,
The parents are pretty good at doing what is needed.  Keep in mind that the reason firemouths have so many babies is because many of them do not survive.

You can try to remove the babies to another tank.  Or you can try removing the other fish to another tank. Or you could just let things be as they are and a few of the kids (the strongest and fastest) will likely survive.
