3 year old betta fish with silver scales

blue betta My 3 year old blue betta fish developped a silver discoloration at the base of his dorsal fin over the last few weeks. It does not look fuzzy or have any wispy ends: it really looks like his scales are turning silver gray. He is eating well, and is quite lively. Any suggestions/comments?

Hi Nicole,
This is a fungus infection. Change all of his water using a good water conditioner. Add a little diluted aquarium salt depending on the size of his tank. ( one teaspoon to 5 gallons of water.) There are many treatments for fungus at your Pet Store. They are all good. Follow the direction on the package, and be careful not to overdose. Keep his water very clean.
