betta bowl temperature (followup)

Question
Hi Chris,
I wrote in a couple of days ago telling you about problems with my betta floating at the top of the water in his bowl, and you attributed that problem to both indigestion and the fact that the temperature of his bowl was perhaps too cold.  I was just wondering how you might suggest keeping the bowl at an appropriate temperature?  I tried shining a light that gave off a bit of heat onto his bowl, but it was really bright, and I didn't know how comfortable my fish would be having a blindingly bright light in his face all the time.  Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a bunch,
Kerry
PS: I tried feeding him a green pea (in small bites) like you suggested, and he seems to be perking up a bit. Thanks so much for your advice!

Answer
Hi Kerry;

A heating pad or a reptile night glow bulb will work too. The night glow bulbs keep the light from being seen by the fish (or reptile) but they still get the heat they need. Just be very careful with them. Don't allow it to get too close to the water itself or to anything flammable nearby.
