Weird bugs in my tank

Question
I have a 5 gal. tank which has been running for a month.  I have had a betta living in it for 3 weeks and just got 2 platies yesterday.  My tank has a carbon filter as well as a filtering wheel.

I have been noticing little almost snail like bugs in my tank the past few days.  They live in the water and don't come to the top.  What are these?

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Taylor;

Probably just some little pond 'bug'. These kind of things often are feeding on excess food. Keep the gravel clean with vacuuming and 25% water changes every week to two weeks. They will probably go away on their own.

Bettas really love live food like these bugs, so if he hasn't been nibbling on them I would suspect you are overfeeding. We all do it from time to time, we just have to be prepared to clean up after ourselves when we do.

Followups welcome
