Question

Sick tetras
We have a 260 litre tank which is 4 weeks old. We started it off with water from a 100 litre tank which is stable and disease free for over a year. Let the tank cycle for two weeks and then planted and introduced a ship as deco all from a good pet store. On the third week we were told to now introduce fish. (6 danio's & 6 siver tipped tetras) We also put in a piece of sterilized wood to give us a platform to plant. After 2 days the problem started. First 1 of the danio's became ill with a white film around its mouth, by the next day its mouth was in a right state. It had developed a second hole under its mouth and died shortly that day. Four of the tetras also were sick by the second day. All showed a fine film over there Left eyes and not the right. One also had the white marks on its body which turned into open wound and the fish died. One more of the tetras died from the infection in its eye and now most of the ones left have the white film over the left eye. ( eye does appear to be swollen. Danio's seem to be ok. Also we have white marks appearing on the inside of the tank, wood and filter. These white marks are easy to wipe off but as u do it seems to break up and float off into the water. At the start there was just a couple of white marks now the tank is covered.
Thanks for any help.

Answer
Ok this is something I've never experienced and I wasn't able to find it online or in my books. But, never put a real piece of wood in an aquarium. Your fish can get hurt on it. What did you sterilize the wood with? What type of plants did you plant? Did you add any aquarium salt to the water?
