QuestionWhat are pregnant goldfish called?
AnswerHi Cynthia,
Goldfish do not get pregnant as such. Only fish with internal fertilization (that typically give birth to live young) can get pregnant, e.g., guppies and mollies. Goldfish females will fill up with eggs and then lay them. The male fertilizes them after the female lays them, so the female is never pregnant. We often call a female full of eggs that are ready to be laid with the name "gravid female".
