Question
hi ...
i was having coffee this am and noticed that my two jewel cichlids were surrounded by a school of fry ...i'm so tickled as i didn't even think i had a breeding pair ....i purchased the two along with two convicts about two mths ago ....i have a 65 gallon tank set up ....i had lost 7 chichlids various types that i had for 2 yrs ...my nephew (2 yrs old) dropped something in my tank that killed all of my fish ...i wasn't home and his mother wasn't watching him ...we were devastated ....so we stripped the tank and started over ...we let it run for 3 weeks before i bought these .....the convict laid eggs almost immediatedly ...unfortunately we didn't have a male to fertilize ....i bought a male the next day and it was too late ...then the two females ate his tail off ...he's still alive ...it's been several weeks now ....the two female convicts remain in the tank with the jewels ....i'd like to leave the fry in this tank ...my question is should i remove all of the adults in the tank or just the convicts ...there appears to be about 60 fry ...all in a school close to the parents ...the convicts are staying on the opposite end of the tank .....i want to take them out but not sure if it will upset the fry if they start swimming wildly(convicts) and also what do you reccomend that i feed them ...i have pellet food and i also have flake food ...is there anything special their diet requires ?
i'd appreciate any info you could give me !
thanks and have a great day !
sincerely ,
kim t.

Answer
Hi Kim,

 Congratulations!

In my opinion, your best move would be to  remove the convicts and leave the jewel parents with the fry in the big tank.  Feed the fry with frozen baby brine shrimp.
