Injured male beta, oddly bent

Question
Hello,
Today my kids got to my male beta and placed him in a small bowl that happened to be right by the tank in about 2 inches of water. When I finally found him, he was still very alive and began to swim right away. When I went to check on him again, he was at the bottom of the tank, unmoving, strangly bent. He moves only with encouragement, gets some air and then goes back to the bottom of the tank. He seems unable to straighten himself out. It looks awful and I'm not sure what to do. Please help.

Answer
Inna,

It sounds like his back was injured during the move. The Betta is a very delicate fish and not sure how your kids got to the fish. Put him in your hospital and lower the water level so that he can get air. Most of these injuries do not get better. Make sure he has a heater, which I am sure he already has since he is a tropical fish and you researched him before you bought him. Hope for the best but prepare for the worse. It is very important that we take care of out fish pets and that includes keeping them safe from children. Make sure you are doing daily water changes since he is now in a lot less water. Keep him quiet and please, keep the children away from him.
