Betta Water

Question
Hey Jaymie, Me again!.  I've got my betta in the 5 gallon tank, heat set at 80, and I tested my water last night. PH is pretty high, like 7.4, ammonia levels are good, and nitrates are at .05 (which I think is acceptable?) He's struggling right now. Spending all of his time on the bottom of the tank, either half under some moss, or in his tiki head, only coming up for air.  No interest in food.  I think he's just been through so much change, with his tank, his temperature, his water, that he's likely very stressed.  What do you do in a case like this? Would you treat the tank with something general? Would you worry about my pH level?  I just hate to see him suffering.
He has a very, very pale sheen to him, but it doesn't look like the pictures I've seen of ick. Could it be something else?
Thank you!
Lori

Answer
Lori,
Yes he is most likely stressed. You can add some stress coat to the water following the directions on the bottle. You can also darken is tank for a couple of days to help with the stress. As for the ammonia levels good, as long as there is NO ammonia or nitrites in the water you are good. The nitrate level is fine. You can also get a product like API Ph down and follow the direction on that package too.
