Female betta is acting strange

Question
Hi there. I have had a female cambodian crowntail betta for about 3 months now. She has always had a lot of energy, but today I noticed that she was "swimming laps" from one side of her container to the the other. Nothing too strange about that except that she has been doing it nonstop all day at a very fast pace. I never see her resting, which IS unusual. There is a male in separate tank nearby. I can't really tell if she is barring because of her natural coloring. I thought maybe there was an issue with the water. I checked it, and the PH was fine, but I changed it anyway since today was the day I normally do it. She still hasn't stopped... I'm worried

Answer
BettaLover,

You mentioned a container. I am hoping she is in a tank no lees than 2.5 gallon, but a 5 gallon is best. You also didn't mention a heater. Betta's need warm water, since they are tropical fish. Set the heater to 82 degrees. If the water is too cold, the fish will start acting different. Some times they will become lethargic, or they will swim like mad to try to keep warm. When checking the water, you need to check for Ammonia, Nitrates, and Nitrites, not just PH. 25% weekly water changes are a must as is a good water conditioner added to the new water before adding it to her tank is also a must.  I don't know what it is you are asking about her coloring so I can't help you there. I think that once the heater is in, and the water is at perfect perimeters, she should start to calm down.
