Question
Its been about a year since i started to keep fish.I have 2 aquariums now.both r of 250 gallons in one there are cichlids, salvini 2 of about 4 inches( male & female )and texas about 5 inches ( male & female . i am pretty sure they r male and female. its been a year since i brought it from pet store, and yet none of the cichlids have formed any pairs all 4 live strangely, peacefully without any fights but i want babies. i have kept a heater in temp 26, i change about 20 % water every week , i have checked the ph level its fine and yet no pairing why?????? i am frustrated please help.

Answer
Hi Summit,
It is very possible that you do not in fact have males and females.  Salvini are very difficult to sex.  With texas cichlids, it is much easier -- females have a black blotch in the dorsal fin.
Does one of your texas cichlids have the blotch?
