Betta Flaring

Question
I bought my Beta a 2.5 Aqueon tank with a light and filter I upgraded from a 1/2 gallon tank when I turn on his light he starts flaring? Is this healthy for him also is it safe to keep the filter in place I took it out after I ready they can get caught in the filter and tear their fins or worse can die?

A filter in a 2.5 won't be big enough to hurt him, so leave it in.

About the flaring, he ether sees his reflection or is scared of the bright light. This is perfectly normal, won't hurt him, and he should stop once he becomes used to these things.
