Moving with my fishy

Question
Hi there, Chris!

I'm a relatively new beta owner.  He currently resides in a large bowl with natural gravel, a little tree (soft, rounded edges to the leaves), no filtration system, and seems to be very "happy" and active.  I feed him about 3 pellets of betta food a day, and change his water once a week.

Anywhoo, we are soon to be moving from Maryland to Huntsville, AL and I am curious as to the best way to transport my little guy.  I have been advised by friends that it would be best to give him to someone here, but I'm rather attached to him already.  :-)  Any advice you could give would be truly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Answer
Hi Katie;

Bettas are so easy to move you won't believe it!

Just empty out his bowl and move it with the rest of your belongings. All you need to put him in is a plastic container (like a pint sized deli container) with a lid that you have poked a hole in for air. Keep him warm and don't feed him during the move. You might want to take a jug of your tap water and conditioner to change his transport water if he will be in the container for longer than 24 hours.

Bettas don't need oxygenated water because they just gulp air from the top. Other fish need aeration in their water or pure oxygen in the transport container.

Fill up his bowl at your new home and float the little moving container in there for a few minutes so he adjusts to the temperature, release him gently.....and you are done!
