Ram Cichlids

Question
Hi, I have a 30 - 35 US Gallon used fish tank which I acquired from a friend recently.  I intend to keep some Golden Ram, Blue Ram Cichlids or any other beautifully coloured Dwarf Cichlids that you can suggest together with Neon/Cardinal Tetras and Dwarf Gouramis.  The filtration system I intend using is the BioChemical Aquah20 AFT-1500 submersible filter or Fluval 205 Canister filter.

What suggestions can you offer with regard to substrate, live plants (medium - low light), rocks, clay pots and driftwood.

Answer
Hello,
Rummynose could be added, and Apistogrammas such as the Borelli, Agassizi, and viljita.  Never keep Apistogrammas alone.  They must be kept by two or three.  Be careful not to overstock your tank.  When they spawn they are very aggressive, so it would be a good idea to have a backup tank of 15 gallons or more.  Provide lots of plants, real or silk, and hiding places for them.  Drawfs are sensitive to water conditions, so make sure your water is soft, and acidic.  PH should be around 6.5 to 6.8.  I would not recommend keeping Drawf Gouramis with Drawf Cichlids.  The Dwraf Gourami is very timid, and should not be kept with cichlids.
Hope this helps
