oscar discoloration

my oscar was completely black and now keeps changing colors from black to pale white what is goin on?

Hi Ryan,
  Color change is actually a normal part of the life of most cichlids.  Often color change indicates different moods. Cichlids generally go very dull dark when they are unhappy.  They may also go very pale when they are unhappy.  You can tell they are happy when their colors are bright.

 Have you been doing regular water changes?  I strongly recommend that you change 25% of the water in his tank once a week every week to keep him happy.
