Question
Hi I have set up a new 680 litre aquarium for 5 red belly piranha (which are still in the aquatic centre) it has everything in necessary for a good environment but i want to make sure the levels of pH etc are right before I introduce my fish, I have trawled many sitres looking for answers to no avail. Could you help me please??!!

Answer
Hello Dawn:

I have kept Red Belly Piranhas in the past and generally they are very adaptable when it comes to water parameters.  As an example, these fish should be able to handle a PH range of anywhere between 5.5 and 8 and temperatures between 22-30C.  The most important thing is to aim for consistency and make any changed slowly if possible.  Are you able to find out what the water parameters are at the aquatic center so that you can provide similar?  You could also try Monsterfishkeepers.com - they have a piranha forum that may be worth looking at.

Hope I was able to help,

-Brian.
