found a baby finch

I found a baby "finch" (so I was told by a pet store staff, "some knid of finch") in the middle of a street. He could flap around but cannot fly. What should I do? I left vms with the wild life place, so far no returned calls. Help. I don't want him/her to die..

I'm not sure I understand what you want help with but I'll try my best. If you are sure that it is a wild bird, I would suggest calling a vet (some of them care for wild birds until they can be either given to a wildlife are place or can be released into the wild). Even if the vet can't take it they should atleast have a number for you.
Also, call the people again and leave another if they do not answer. Sometimes you just have to keep calling
