male parent zebra attacking chicks

Question
i have a pair of zebra finches who have been rearing 5 chicks that have just fledged and have been totally out of the nest and starting to feed on their own, the past 3 or 4 days. from the first the, of them being totally outside the nest the male zebra has been making a squawking noise, pecking the beak and chasing the chick around the cage. he does it with all of the chicks but seems to do it to the smallest/youngest even more. but he still feeds them and preens them and with sleep next to them during the day and at night with no problem. before the chicks came out of the nest he had been fine but has always been a pushy bird even with the female. what should i do, should i get rid of him or just wait it out and see if he keeps it up as he has not actually physically harmed the chicks .  have no idea what to do help please

Answer
If the babies are eating on their own, I suggest separating the babies from the parents. From the sounds of things, dad is trying to get mom back into heat. For the safety of the babies, remove them and keep an eye on them. Do you have another pair of finches you can stick them with? If you do, try putting the babies in with them. The other pair won't feed or preen the babies but will show the babies how to continue eating
