cockateil behaving weird

my cockateil is probably around 10mths old, and she is very affectionate.  but the last week when we let her out she keeps going over to the couch putting her bum against the back of it and twisting her body side to side like she is itching it but at the same time she is making little noises and her body looks like she has the hiccups?  Is she trying to lay an egg? She has been doing it for a week now and she hates me stopping her from doing it.  Should i let her go or is there something wrong with her?  really worried as she is everything to me.

First, I'm sorry that it took me so long to answer your question.  I had a series of family issues which took me away from the computer for a while.

I think your cockatiel may be a male, because he is exhibiting male masturbation behavior.  I wouldn't let him do it on the sofa...you need to distract him and move him to his cage when he begins.  Be prepared that he may bite if you attempt to pick him up while he is doing it.
