Health issue?

Hi Toni - hope you can help me I have a 1 year old colt and as yet there is no sign what so ever of his testicles.  He is very quiet could this be part of it - when should they start to show as a general rule?  Thanks

Thanks for your question. Probably there is no problem. This is fairly common in miniatures. I had a stallion who didn't "descend" until he was nearly 3. The veterinary guide for Miniature Horses says to wait until age 3 to determine whether a horse is a true cryptorchid in which case he would need surgery. I would wait awhile, anyway. until at least your vet's next visit for Spring shots, etc. before having him checked. Hope this helps. Best, Toni
