Question
Hi, I am 14 and I have had my mini since I was 5 1/2. He is broke to ride and to pull carts, and I dont want him to go to waste because I weigh to much to ride him anymore. Currently I do pony parties with him and my old pony, but I want to do something more with him. Do you have any suggestions of things I could possibly do with him? He loves attention so I was thinking of showing him, but I have no experiance in the show ring and I dont belive he does either. ANy suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks

Answer
Hi! Sorry to have not answered sooner have been at a horse show. I think there are many things open to you with the mini. You can certainly show if this is something that interests you.I would suggest looking for a mini club in your area. This would be a great resource for you. Most clubs do fun stuff not only show stuff. Next I would try to find a breeder in the area who would also be someone close to pick their brains about the training stuff. There are some good books and videos on training the mini on smallhorse press.com I believe is the address. They are fun to teach trail stuff to and jumping. The other thing is just pleasure driving for your own enjoyment. They are such great pets and friends that even if you don't do anything but love them and groom them they are happy. I do some driven dressage and cones with mine and you might go on a driving website like american driving society and see what is available to you through that site. Many options but best to find someone to connect with in your area if you are interested in showing. Showing is fun if you are not a hard core gotta win person. It is highly competitive but if you go in with the attitude that I am going to do the best I can win or lose just do my best and have fun doing it. Thats what minis are all about. I show the pinto circuit and it is family oriented and AMHR shows are too. Good luck! Melissa
