QuestionHow many will a mini mare produce foals. We have a mare that just gave birth to her 16th colt in 16 years. She is a great mom and loves it but I am wondering if we should give her a break orifshe will just take one when she feels like it.

Thanks for your question. Wow- that may be a record. It is my understanding that when it comes to breeding, it is about the same as for big horses. Most of the folks I know retire their mare by around the age of 18 at the latest (many earlier), although I have heard of 20 YOs who have had babies. I would think it would depend on her health. You may want to consult a vet but I think I would give her a rest before she gets too worn out to enjoy retirement. :0) Best, Toni
