IF YOU COULD PLEASE GIVE ME ANY INFO ON WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG.I HAVE A MALE GLIDER HE IS ABOT 7 MONTHS OLD, I FOUND HIM LAYING ON THE BOTTOM IF HIS CAGE THIS AFTERNOON SO I PICKED HIM UP AND HE WAS ICE COLD BUT STILL ALIVE. HE CAN BAIRLEY MOVE AT ALL IVE BEEN HOLDING HIM IN MY HANDS FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. WEN I MOVE MY HAND FROM HIM HE WAILS HIS ARMS AROUND UNTIL I PUT IT BAC AND HE CLUNG ONTO MY SHIRT SO I PUT MY HAND AGAINST HIS BACK SO HE WOULDNT FALL AND HE STARTED SHAKING {MORE LIKE VIBRATING} AND THE HIS HEAD STARTED TO FALL BACK. HE SEEMS TO BE TWITCHING AND HAVING INVOLUNTARY SPASMS. I JUST WANT AN IDEA OF WHAT THIS IS UNTIL I CAN GET TO THE VET TOMORROW.

Answer
Dear Trish:

Your glider may not have until tomorrow.  He sounds like he may not last another couple of hours without emergency help.  Do you have an emergency veterinary hospital in the area?  They can at the very least administer sub-Q fluids.  The involuntary spasms are likely seizures.  There is absolutely no way for me to tell what is wrong with him at this point.  He could have gotten too cold, may have ingested something toxic, or may be suffering from an illness or infection.  Since I am not a vet, and with the information you have provided, there is no way to tell.

1.  Try to call an emergency veterinary hospital and ask them to administer Sub-Q fluids.  Here is the number for my vet, she may be willing to talk the emergency vet through dosages, etc.  Listen through the message machine to get an emergency contact number.

If you cannot get him to a vet, it sounds like he probably won't make it.  But to do your very best for him, keep him warm and try to get him to drink fluids, pedialyte, gatorade, apple juice, even water with a small amount of corn syrup just to keep his fluids up.

You can e-mail me your number to lauriegall @ cox dot net, though, unless you happen to live in Phoenix, Arizona, I won't be able to be of much assistance to you other than to keep you and your baby boy in my prayers.

I am hoping for the best.
