Answer

Gliding Glider!
Hello Gabe!

My son's name is also Gabriel and he is 9 years old :)

I am happy to hear you picked Sugar Gliders to do your school report on!
That is VERY Exciting!

To answer your questions:

1. Sugar Gliders DO NOT hibernate that I am aware of.. tho their activities slow down during the winter / rainy seasons.. they are originally from the very warm climate of Australia and spend their days sleeping and their nights playing and eating and breeding.

2. In their natural habitat sugar gliders have many different predators including Owls, Kookaburras, Quolls amongst other night predators. Australia has at least 9 species of Owl in their country.. that means there is a LOT to watch out for!

3. Sugar Gliders "glide" and therefore do not fly.. and so their gliding distances may very depending on where it is they want to jump.. he can glide from one branch to another quite easily and they have been clocked at gliding distances of 50-150 meters before! It is really quite interesting to see..

4. Feeding Time! In the wild, sugar gliders live off gum and sap from their surrounding trees.. mainly the eucalyptus trees, and they also eat many different insects and arachnids.. most of which are already in the trees and so the gliders don't need to go to the forest floor to get their food which is a good thing as it can be pretty dangerous down there!

Hope this information helps Gabe :)

I would be happy to hear how you score on your report :)
