Question
Brown Teeth
Brown Teeth
QUESTION: My sugar glider has some hairloss under its chin and its teeth turned from an orange to a brown.May you give me any answers of what may of happened or why. If possible can you give me any suggestions  on what to do or not to do. Thank you for your time.

ANSWER: Andrew,

How old is your glider?  My oldest is almost ten years old, and his teeth are still pretty white.  I suspect that the teeth and hair loss could be due to your glider's diet.  What does he eat?  My gliders eat BML, fresh fruits & veggies, and occasional meal worms and crickets.

If diet isn't an issue, there are other possible causes.  Please let me know about your glider's diet.  Also, what color is your glider's underside?  Is he a regular gray glider, or is he a Cinnamon?

btw, the photo isn't clear enough for me to see the teeth.

Thanks!

Betty

QUESTION: Its not the usual sogar glider. We purchased her fro thid lady and her cat brought it in from outside. We took one of the babies. It is about one years old.Basically we feed it all fruits. It doesn't have the stripe on its head or anything. Its just brown with some black on sides. Its underside is like a cream color.

Answer
Andresw,

Okay, now it all makes sense!  You do not have a Sugar Glider, but a flying squirrel, Flying squirrels look a lot like Sugar Gliders, but they are completely different.  Gliders are marsupials, and flying squirrels are rodents.  Their teeth get brown naturally.  You need to provide things for them to chew on to wear down the teeth, because the teeth continually grow.  I am not an expert on rodents.  Please check online for information.

Thanks!
