New sugar glider drinks alot of water

Question
We recently bought a female sugar glider to introduce to our other 2.  She was a single pet and judging by what the gave us for her food, she wasn't fed properly.  We got her home and started her on fresh fruits and vegetable, yogurt and proteins.  She stays at her dish till it is gone!  And then I gave her fresh water with gliderade in it. We have been doing this for the last 4 days and she will drink almost her whole bowl of gliderade too.  With in about 6 hours.  Is this normal?  Our other 2 drink but nothing like this one does. She seems healthy.  Not real active but she loves to be held.  I live in a small town and I don't think we have a vet here who would have a clue about her.  Any suggestions would be great.  She is about 2 years old.

Answer
Without consulting a Veterinarian we cannot be certain,.. but I am thinking that she may just be living the good life! I mean from what you explain she has not been cared for well in the past.. and so this may just be too good to be true for her.. as she gets to know you and her new environment better she will come to realize that food will always be there for her.. and perhaps that will ease her ravenous mind..

I have experienced many different reactions with the rescue gliders I have rehabilitated.. they come to stay with me for months and sometimes even a year or more during their healing process.. and even though they express it in different ways they all still express it just the same.. APPRECIATION.. is the best word I can use to describe it.. suddenly they are taken from some sticky bag in a small cramped cage and introduced to a large & lavish environment where they learn people are "good" and more importantly what proper nutrition is..

At my establishment we use the modified ledbeater's diet with all of our gliders.. therefore I am certain everyone is getting the proper mix of calcium & vitamins and we also offer snacks & treats on the side such as mealworms, fresh fruits / veggies, cereals, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc with fresh water available (via water bottle) at all times.. I am a firm believer that any animal will act the way they need to act and will eat and drink what and how they deem fit because they know better than we do most times.. as long as your little one is acting normal otherwise I do not believe it will be something to be concerned with.. of course I always do recommend taking your gliders into an Exotics Veterinarian at least yearly..

Thank You for Writing & Hope this helps to ease your mind..
