Making noise while mating

Question
QUESTION: I just recently acquired a male and female... this morning their moving around in their pouch and making a weird noise its not the crabbing noise they have heard them do at each other once last night but its a very strange noise.. so my question is... if their breeding will it happen in the pouch and do they make any kind of noise?

ANSWER: Jennifer,

Since I cannot hear the noise you are talking about, I cannot be sure.  Gliders make lots of different noises that mean different things. How old are they?  Gliders will mate anywhere.  Sometimes the female will make a "go away, you're annoying me" noise which sounds more like fussing than fighting.  If the male is chasing the female around the cage and won't leave her alone, you might want to take him out for an hour or so to give the female a break.  Bonded glider pairs who are happy with each other usually mate quietly.

Hope this helps,

Betty

QUESTION: the sound was like bark/chirp... i havent heard anyone sound like on all the links i have found on sounds... my sister thinks maybe its like an i love you kinda of thing... he isnt chasing her around or anything just the pouch is moving around and their like wide awake.. its noon here... so do they mate durning the day?

Answer
Jennifer,

It doesn't sound like anything to worry about.  Pay more attention to their behavior, as we really can't translate the noises very well.

Noontime is the middle of the night for Sugar Gliders.  I suppose it is a good time for mating. (?)  Maybe the noises you hear are sounds of annoyance for disturbing sleep time.

Thanks for the questions.  I hope all goes well for you and your little ones.  Let me know if you need anything else.
