Question
I bought my first glider last night, 8wks oop.  I was just wondering, if I give him tuna as the meat source (and alternate sometimes with chicken, etc,,) along with fresh fruits and veggies, is that a good balanced diet for him nightly, or is something missing?  And is it safe to use tuna, chicken, etc out of a can or pouch?

Answer
Jennifer,

Congratulations!  Thanks for the question.  Please check the ingredients on the tuna or chicken.  It probably has salt and other things that are not good for gliders.  I would strongly suggest using an actual sugar glider diet plan, such as BML, Zookeeper's Secret, or one of the other diets formulated especially for gliders.  They need calcium, vitamins, and other nutrients that are difficult to provide using only regular foods.  Any of these diets need to be supplemented with real foods such as eggs, chicken, yogurt, fruits and veggies.  Using a staple food or formula diet in addition to the other stuff will ensure that all the essential nutrients are provided.  Please go to my website for any additional questions.
