Question
I adopted a 1.5 y/o male.  He was bonded to his previous owner, but prior to that was left abandoned in an apartment.  I have had him 2 days and he keeps biting me.  Will the yuck E stuff work at this age?  should I wear a glove at first so he won't break through skin?  He is also very hard to get out of the cage (using the cloth method.  need suggestions please.  thanks!

Answer
Absolutely use gloves.. I have used this technique with many unsociable rescues that have been turned in.. there is no sense getting bitten if you needn't be right..??

The entire purpose of handling your glider it to tame him to the touch of humans.. this would be very hard to achieve if he bites you and you sling him across the room..!! Let him bit the glove and show him you have no fear.. biting will NOT release him.. biting will NOT let him have his way.. he will grumble.. he will crab but over time he will calm down and learn to accept you as a friend not foe..

DO offer him goodies to eat from your hand during the process.. @ 1st he will not want anything to do with you and or any peace offerings you give.. but time will heal all emotional wounds.. as far a retrieving him from the cage.. do you have a sleeping pouch hanging inside..?? he most always will be in there and you can simply remove the pouch and scoop him out..

Take some time to read through my older articles on bonding.. it will help give you a better prospective of where your little guys attitude is coming from..

Best Wishes!
