Question
Hello! I have two sugar gliders, male and female, now Im pretty positive we are expecting! I am worried that I am not providing a good enough diet for her. I feed them HPW cubes along with fresh fruits and vegetables every night. They get chicken and scrambled eggs once a week. I want to be positive I am providing enough care for her and baby. How will I know that the joey has come out of the pouch? I am not sure of the exact time frame this baby has been in pouch. We noticed signs of her growing belly around mid-Janurary.

Is there anything I need to be concerned about?  And what about keeping the baby? Is this safe to do or will they all breed together once mature?

Thanks for your help!

Answer
My apologies for the late reply.. there was a delay in me getting your question.. :(

Congratulations on your little ones.. It is a fascinating transition you watch as the babies emerge & grow into little nocturnal sweethearts.. The best rule of thumb is to Feed Momma just the way you would usually feed her.. perhaps just giving her a little bit more.. as long as you have done the proper research on diet you are in good hands..

Usually the little ones make an appearance 1 leg or tail at a time..lol
The easiest way to document their OOP birth date is simply through OBSERVATION.. Visually check on mom n dad nightly taking notice of her pouches.. It is my experience that most parents will leave their offspring in the pouch when they come out to feed.. I believe this is for their own safety.. it makes perfect sense being they are so tiny & vulnerable at such a young age..

Many parents get a little protective when they have youngsters.. and some will be just fine w/ you peeking on the little ones.. you just need to figure out how your parents will respond to your intrusion.. Try to keep from disturbing them as little as you can.. some parents will eat their own young is they are feeling stressed.. If all goes well.. you will see little ones riding atop mom n dad's back for a joy ride before you know it :)

Parents & young WILL BREED together if not separated.. so do consider getting a separate cage if you wish to keep offspring in the same household after they reach 16 weeks..

Best of LUCK!
