sugar gliders 2 males, 1 female

Question
We currently have a male sugar glider who is self-mutilating his tail.  We understand that this is most likely because he is lonely and would like to get another sugar glider to be his playmate.  We found a male/female pair that is for sale.  I am wondering though if we are going to have problems having two males and one female.  The male that we are buying is neutered, but I am not sure if our current male is (he does not have a bad smell so I am assuming he is).  What is your opinion?

Answer
Jaime,

You can easily tell if a male is neutered.  Does he have a large "fluff ball" on his lower abdomen?  Does he have a bald spot on the top his head?  If so, he is an intact male.  If not, he has been neutered.

Two unrelated intact males generally do not get along, especially when there is a female involved.  An intact male will probably get along with a neutered male and female.  Sugar Gliders have their own personalities, though, and you can never be sure how they will react to each other.

Is there any way to bring home the pair for a trial period?  You should be able to see if they get along within a week or two.  Please visit my website for information about bonding and introductions.  nc.sugar.gliders.googlepages.com

Good luck, keep me posted.
