Question
QUESTION: Hi I just got 2 sugar gliders yesterday and they are a male and female about 2 yrs old they are very sweet! I noticed that the female was eating a lot more then the male and when I hold her and if i rub her belly I feel a lump on one side of her belly near her back leg. Could that be a baby and if it is what would I need to change to make her comfortable and give her the best chance of raising a healthy baby.

ANSWER: Kasey,

Sounds to me like congratulations are in order!  You have one joey coming.  Please make sure your gliders have a proper diet, and the Ma and Pa will do the rest.  They need plenty of protein and calcium.  What do you feed them now?  Add some eggs, yogurt, and powdered calcium.

Do you know if this pair have had joeys before?  If they are experienced parents, everything should be fine.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Good luck!

Betty

QUESTION: Yes they have had a few joeys before I am not sure how many. I only feel one lump so does that mean that there is only one joey? Last night was the first time that I had them so i boiled an egg and cut up a banana and put a little bit of baby food and mixed it together and they seemed to like it. I am going to the store today to get the calcium and yogurt.

Answer
Kasey,

One lump, one joey.  By the way, be very gentle when feeling for the joey.  You must not knock the baby from the mother's teat.

Please go to my website and learn about their diet.  It is extremely important that they get a proper diet.  While you are there, please check out some of the links about gliders and their care.
