Question
QUESTION:      I have owned a male sugar glider,(Yoda) for a year now. Over the weekend I welcomed a baby female glider into my home. I bought a new cage with a divider in the center so that I could keep the two apart until my new glider, Coley is old enough to mate (as of now she is roughly nine weeks OOP). I am sixteen years old currently. I have waited until I matured enough to be able to afford to raise two gliders. I have a job and I have more  then enough to get them routine check ups and keep them properly nurtured. I plan on becoming a qualified breeder one day. I had some questions for you on a few different topics.

Firstly, What are the steps to becoming a liscensed or qualified breeder? Where do I begin on my quest?

Also,Do you have any tips on how to bond with my new baby? I rescued Yoda, and he was fairly tame. I bonded with him quickly. We pretty much instantly "clicked" if you will. My new baby is very scared and constantly crying for her mom. I know this is usual, but as of now, she crabs when I even walk to the cage. Any advice?

         Thank you,
         Kendall

ANSWER: i see that you put hey laurie in the subject line....and i see that you are asking a breeder question....my name is not laurie, did you mean to ask that question to someone named laurie on here that is a breeder cause i am not sure how you would become one....i am just a glider owner...i can tell you to start bonding with the new glider just keep holding her in a pouch and petting her and giving her little treats from your hand...she is young and not familiar with you or her new home so she is gonna cry and crab but if you keep at it with the treats and handling her she will come to trust you and bond with you after a while.....

QUESTION: Hey again. Sorry about that, I just saw other people post "Laurie" so I thought perhaps I was as well. Anyways, I was just wondering if the handling should start immediately. Some websites say to take things slowly(Which means don't even use the bonding pouch until around the 5th or 6th week.) While others say to use the bonding pouch immediately.

With Yoda I started immediately, but then again he has never crabbed at me. Even in the beggining. Which way worked best for you?

 Thank you

Answer
I would put her into the bonding pouch every day and carry her around with you while she is sleeping so she gets use to your scent.....even though she will be sleeping in the pouch and not awake she will still get your scent and it will make it easier to bond with her once you start to handle her cause she will have gotten use to your scent some from the pouch
