Question
I have rehomed 2 sugar gliders which are 9-10 weeks oop. They both were eating good before the new owner took them home and today she called and said the female won't eat. Can you give me some suggestions as to what to do.

Answer
Pat,

There could be several reasons why she isn't eating.  Was there a change in diet?  Maybe the food is different, and she doesn't like it.  Perhaps she is under stress due to leaving her parents and/or her new home and humans.  She could be ill.

I would suggest to try these things in this order:

1.  Try different foods.  Start with BML.  If she doesn't like that, then give her the BML ingredients separately, like honey chicken with applesauce, eggs with yogurt and wheat germ, etc.  Don't forget fresh fruits and vegetables.  I'm sure they can find something healthy she'll eat.

2  Put her and her companion in a smaller cage for a while and give her the chance to get used to things before handling her or letting her out in a large environment.  Use a bonding pouch to gradually get her used to her new humans.

3.  If she still won't eat, take her to a vet to make sure there aren't any physical problems.

I hope this helps.  Keep in touch,

Betty
