Question
QUESTION: Hi I am pleased to say I came across this site by surfing. I am soon to purchase a Joey of 3months old. I would like to have someone build me a nice cage for them. Of course I would like to have coaster placed on the legs for easy rolling when I clean the cage, pull out tray, and a special drawer for specially for their items. If you can help please email. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Have a a great day

ANSWER: Congratulations!  Will you have more than one glider?  They do best with a companion.  It sounds like you are on the right track with your cage plans.  What kind of materials do you plan to use?  Gliders can bite through regular window screens.  My cages have 1cm "hardware cloth," and the gliders have never gotten out.  The cage should be as large as possible, and more tall than wide.  Build a platform up high for their food and water.  Gliders are arboreal, and like to eat up high.  Also, this will help prevent droppings from getting into the food.  You will want the ability to hang things from the top of the cage, so either have it made of the hardware cloth, or install rings or hooks.  Don't forget to plan a spot to attach the water bottle and wodent wheel.  I can't think of anything else at the moment.  Do you have any specific questions?  Good luck; you are going to have some grateful gliders!

QUESTION: ////Thanks for your reply. I am looking for direct instructions to build the cage with nice pictures. I will need this so that I can give to the one who will build the cage for me.I want it to be at least 5feet because that is my height and it would be easier for me to reach the Joeys, when I go to take them out of the cage.I am getting one right now, because I do not want to get two from the same group. I would like for them to be unrelated. I read that the height is just as important as the width because they do more climbing up than across. So if you can help me further with this project please let me know.

Answer
Hello,

Have you found cage plans?  I'd love to hear about your new cage.

Betty

Hi Alice,

Sorry, but I don't know anything about building cages.  I've had lots of great ideas over the years, but I've never actually built anything.  I went online to do some research for you, but I didn't find anything interesting.  Maybe your builder could design something from a photograph?  I'd be happy to help you with design ideas, if that would help.  Please keep in touch, I'd love to see what you come up with.  My favorite Sugar Glider cage is the National Arboretum in Washington DC.  Since gliders are nocturnal, they'd probably never know the gliders were in there!  lol

Good luck!
