ANSWER: Dear Petra:

It's a little difficult to understand your question.  I know you are upset.  First of all, a baby sugar glider should never be separated from its mother before it is 8 weeks old out of pouch.  Are you saying someone gave you a 4-day old glider?  What makes you think it was born 4 days ago?  If that is the case, her eyes will not be open.  Are her eyes open?  Here is a picture of a joey about the age you are talking:

Is her tail fluffy?  A glider that is too young will have a smooth, pointed tail and the hair will not be fluffed out.  I hope she is older than you think.  But to know for sure, you will need to get her to someone who knows sugar gliders right away.  Perhaps you can take her into the vet right away to find out.  If she is only 4 days out of pouch, it is important that a lot of things be done right away.  First of all, it is best to put her back with her mother.  Hand-feeding a baby glider is difficult ever couple of hours hand feeding a special formula 24/7 http://www.toandfrogliders.com/FileHierarchy/InfoPouch/RejectedJoeys.htm
It is also important to stimulate her rear with a cotton swab to try and get her to potty when she eats.  This is what her mother would do.  I urge you to read this to your mother and ask her to help you identify the age of this baby and/or take her to a vet for identification right away.
Please try to get her back with her mother.  You can try weighing her, too.  She should weigh at least 35-45 grams at 8 weeks.

Since I can't look at her you are best to take her to the vet to know for sure.

You can also log onto WSGN for emergency help throughout the day.

Of course, I am hoping this baby is not 4 days old and she is just a little small.  Let me know.  But I have to tell you that if she is that young, it is possible she could die, so it is very important you get your mom involved at this point, Petra.

Good luck, Petra.  Please feel free to e-mail me directly at lauriegall@coxdotnet if you want - make sure you replace the word "dot" in my e-mail with a "." Okay?  Petra.

ANSWER: Dear Petra:

Calm down.  If she is eating on her own, she is likely 4-6 weeks if eating on her own. Did you check her tail, is it fluffy?  What has she eaten so far?   What are you feeding her? It sounds like she is not 4 days old.

She is a baby and they are nocturnal.  They are supposed to sleep all day.  Make sure she gets her sleep.

If you notice her shaking a lot or she won't wake up, get her to a vet right away.  No time to think about it, okay?

I'm very proud of you.  If you email me.  I'll be able to send you some attachments and further information.

QUESTION: her tail?its covered with fur..its not exploded fluffy
thnks
ANSWER: Dear Petra:

I will be able to better help you if you answer all of my questions.  Okay, if her tail is smooth and not fluffy, that may indicate she is still quite young.

I need to know what she is/has eaten.  Is she eating on her own?  What diet are you feeding your gliders?  Time is of the essence if she is too young.  I urge you, again, to take her to a vet or to someone who can adequately gauge her age and assist you with care.  Perhaps you could e-mail me and attach a photo of the glider and I might be able to tell by the photos or I could send you a few to choose from.

I will not be able to check All Experts much today or tonight as I have classes.  If you have an emergency, you can go to my website affinitysugargliders.com - look under emergency contact information, you will find a number to call in an emergency if necessary.

QUESTION: ok

i am feeding her baby milk or something..called'similac' u noe it?is it ok? i feed her with a syringe and sometimes she grabs the bowl and licks the food
haha
thnks, i dont think the vet noes tht much
oh well..
from the answers i gave u tell me if shes very young or not ok?
p.s so how many times shud i feed her during a day
petra

Answer
Dear Petra:

In my previous answer, I gave you the link to a website with a recipe for "Baby BML" you should feed that.  Similac is better than nothing but not what I would use for her.  Are you in the US?  A good vet should be able to let you know how old she is. I cannot be certain by what you have told me, but if her tail is smooth coated and not fluffy, she is not 8 weeks.  I would feed her every 3 hours as much as she will eat and make sure to use a cotton swab or something to rub her bottom to make sure she goes potty.  This is something her mother would do.

Good luck with her Petra.  Please visit some of the websites I provided earlier and research the care of a baby.
