sugar glider smell

Question
I recently acquired 2 gliders from a college student who could no longer take care of them.  I put them in a brand new cage with new bedding-I am using the Wodent Wheel that came with them.  About an hour after setting them up, I noticed a nasty smell.  I have washed the bedding and the wheel and the smell doesn't go away.  Is there anything I can do to get rid of the smell without getting rid of my new family members.

Answer
Usually when we receive "smelly" gliders in rescue it is purely as a result of bad diet..

Sugar Gliders do exhibit an odor naturally similar to a ferret if you have ever encountered one..
males especially.. so to rid them completely of any smell would be futile..

Please consider revising their current diet.. a balanced and specialized diet with the proper calcium / multi vitamins are extremely important and most often overlooked by many owners..
It is easy to get confused by all the different information available on the web..
We feed the modified ledbeater's diet which our recipe can be found in earlier articles for your reference.. try this and give it a few months and see if the smell decreases.. also be sure to wash their sleeping / bonding pouches often & to keep their cage tip top in cleanliness..
