Question
QUESTION: Well its been two days since they have been back together and last night they were very active together the boy doesnt like to be touched much but today they have to came out of there pouch all day and they usually come out by 12 but that is still abnormal from what the breeder told me. im feeding them a balanced diet now. today they have made some hissing noises but it kinda reminds me of an insect not crabbin i know that but it almost sounds like an insect of the night kinda sound like a chirp mixed with a hiss? But what im worried about is them not coming out. they have to come out to eat and if they have not been out all day then they have not eatin. But other than today they have been doing ok other then them not coming out until a very late time! thanks Tyler

ANSWER: Tyler,

It sounds like the gliders are doing better together.

What time did the breeder tell you they would wake up and play?  Gliders are nocturnal, and don't usually wake up until about 10:00 - 11:00 in the evening.  They will normally go back to sleep at dawn, or when it becomes light in the house.

I think the sound you are hearing is a sound of annoyance.  It says, "you're bugging me.  Just leave me alone."

If the sound is more like a little puppy barking, then he is saying "here I am.  I'm lonely, where are you?"

Please check out sugar-gliders.com and my website, nc.sugar.gliders.googlepages.com for more information about gliders.

Please keep in touch.  Thanks!

QUESTION: She said they usually got up at 8 or 9 but I don't really bother them
whenthey make that sound its just random, they might be doing it cause
of the sounds in my room maybe? But other then that they are just
about cleanin there food bowl and they play for a while at around 4 in
the morning I don't know exactly how long cause I'm alseep but at 12
when I get up they are sometimes still up or going to bed right when I get
up but its almost like I have to make them come out to get them to

ANSWER: Tyler,

I'm afraid you are confusing me.  Are we talking am or pm?  How old are you?

You can expect them to stay asleep the entire day.  They will wake up when it gets dark in the room, any time from 9:00 pm until 11:00 pm.  They will then eat and play on and off throughout the night, napping from time to time.  They will finally go to sleep for the day when it gets light in the room.

What are you feeding your gliders?

QUESTION: I'm 17 sorry I'm so young and confusing you, I just love my pets. But I am
feedin them the staple food along with a veriety of fruits and vegetables
and some honey some nights and yougurt. Is the bml hard to make and
how long will one batch last ? I found this diet on one of the websites. But
they wake up around 2 am and go to sleep at about 12 pm. I have
blankets over my windows so no sunlight ever gets in should I take them
off? Thanks for the help its good advice just want the best for them. And
also is it bad for a brother and sister to mate?

Answer
I don't have a lot of time, I have guests this weekend.  You should NOT allow brother and sister to mete.  The offspring could be defective.

The gliders need natural cycles of day and night for their biological clocks to work properly.  That's why their routine of sleep and activity are off balance.

BML is your best bet to ensure a balanced diet.  They will eat a couple of tablespoons a day.  Good luck!  Keep in touch.
