Question
My fiance and I just recently came across 2 breeding pairs of sugar gliders and brought them home. I feel that maybe we have been doped. The person we adopted them from said they were both breeding pairs but had only had them for a few months and wasn't sure if they had reproduced or not... He said his wife dealt with the breeding part of it. I never here our 2 new breeding pairs mate but our first breeding pair I hear all the time. Luna and Bo have already had their first baby and now they are having twins.... But our other pairs don't seem to be having any luck.... I don't know if they are mating and we are just not aware of it or if there is something wrong?

Thank you
Stephanie

Answer
Stephanie,

There are several reasons your gliders might not be breeding.  I need you to answer some questions before I can give you an informed answer.

How old are the gliders?  If you don't know, check the color of the underside.  The whiter they are, the younger.  Older gliders have yellowish or brownish coloring on their bellies.

Do the females have obvious pouches?  In other words, when you look at the stomach, is the pouch quite visible, or do you really have to search for it?

Are all three pairs living in separate cages?

Are they bonded pairs (have they lived together for a long time)?

Once I have the answers to these questions, I will let you know what I think.

Thanks!
