shedding royal

Question
Irwin my royal python is going through his first shed since ive owned him. He is about 20-22inches in length

Found out that royals can be a bit moody when shedding! i went to lift his hide up to see how he was and i only just got my finger into the entrance and a green missile came out and disappeared. Didnt get tagged though thank god.

I have checked today and i have noticed bits of skin around the viv.
I am worried that this is a bad sign because he is not shedding in full.
I am misting the cage before i go to work, when i return and before bed to keep the humidity up, but can only keep it at about 60%.
He has a water bowl that i keep topped up with fresh water
I dont want to attempt to lift the hide up again if he hasnt finished shedding.  But on the other hand dont want to leave it too long to check up on him.

Any advice about royals and shedding????

Cheers Mat

Answer
Hi Mat.  I must say...you really had me laughing when you mentioned the "green missile" part LOL  Thanks for the laugh.
On to more important things....I have had many questions regarding shedding problems.  And snakes are quite alike when it comes to the solution to help them make a complete shed. Soak him in a VERY shallow (1/2 inch or less) bucket/bowl of luke-warm water for about 20 mins (of course keep an eye on him so he doesn't escape).  After that you can either gently glide the shed off with your fingers or if it doesn't come off easily just put him back into his cage until tomorrow.  If he doesn' get it off on his own try soaking again.  It WILL eventually come off and won't cause any harm.  Hope this helps and thanks for writing :-)
