corn snake rattling @ food

hi, i adopted a 5yr old corn snake 8months ago. we have fed him with no problems every wk but about 6wks ago he began hitting the tank as though he was trying to get out. he has also refused his food, rattling his tail & striking at anything offered to him. we have left him and tried to feed him today, although his behaviour has calmed down he is still refusing his feed?

Sounds like someone has a bad attitude problem! Some snakes will on the spur of a moment resort back to their first instincts - which at times may result in a very pissed off and non-compliant snake. Most of the time it goes away after a period of time. Keep offering food every week and he should eventually take it. Keep an eye on his weight: if he seems to be losing any, it's time for a trip to the vet.
