Help!! Need toi dentify a snake

Please help me,
I live in Zakynthos, Greece and I've just had a heart attack! A huge (approx 3 metres plus) snake has just gone across my veranda.
It was beige colour with black stripes from head to foot.I can't tell you more than that as I ran faster than I thought possble!
I'm very scared of snakes plus I have a 3 year old daughter and of course I'm scared for her health. Also,I want to make sure they don't come in pairs!

I don't know of any really dangerous snakes in Zakynthos and I really can't think of a snake from Greece period that is 3 meters long it was most likely just a harmless whip snake as they can get rather large and if you were startled it may have appeared slightly larger.
