Question
QUESTION: Hi have an Australian water dragon that only about a year and a halves old. My lizard just lost three of her fingers and I'm very worried!!!!!!! she also has lost some of the fat in his foot thumb, feels like just bone. he hasn't had light for a couple of days because we have just moved houses and cant find her UV light. can their fingers grow back? please tell me how i can fix this ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

ANSWER: They won't grow back.  You should take her to a vet who has reptile experience, right away.  Particularly during the stress of a move, it's vital to have proper temperatures and humidity.  She can do without the UVB light for a couple of days, but find it ASAP.  Remember that UVB fluorescent bulbs need to be replaced every 6 months, while UVB mercury-vapor lamps should be replaced every 3 years.  After this time, they stop producing UVB.  (On the fluorescents, the special coating is decayed by the light itself, and wears off slowly over time.  After 6 months, they're outputting half the UVB they were when new).

A vet will look over the wounds, and be able to evaluate if they require antibiotic treatment to prevent deadly infection.

QUESTION: one of my lizards toes is like decaying or  something. the skin is falling off and i can see the bone. thanks so much for your help

Answer
It sounds like your lizard may have a serious infection, and it definitely needs to be taken to a veterinarian immediately.  You will need to have your parents set up an appointment, promptly.  (Since you are only 12, they will technically be responsible for caring for pets in the household, and veterinary care is never optional.  All pets should see a vet at least once a year, and any time they are injured or ill.  Since you cannot work, the cost of pet ownership is something your parents have to cover).  Obviously, leaving this untreated would be very cruel (and illegal, at least in the United States), so don't let them get out of going to the vet.

Do not delay, your lizard's life is at serious risk from this.  I also recommend that you buy a book on water dragon care, and also look up a lot of Australian water dragon care sheets online, so that you can make sure your cage, heat and light, and the food you are feeding, are all correct to keep the dragon healthy.  Poor husbandry (incorrect care) can lead to problems like the one your lizard is having right now, so you want to be sure that is not the cause.
