Question
QUESTION: Hi Tracy,
I'm writing on behalf of my daughter, who is visiting her grand parents in Peace River, AB and has no Internet access at the moment. Her 10 year old bearded dragon "Monster" has a prolapse.  It apparently has been coming and going for the past few days, she seems grey and agitated.  Monster had to visit a vet about a year ago with this condition, but managed to heal herself with the help of some sugar water on her bottom.  She's had two clutches of eggs since then and no problem, the most recent clutch was about 3 weeks ago.  Current treatment includes bath, and sugar water bottom (which she's fighting).  I noticed that you had been talking with someone from Grande Prairie, with a dragon named vendetta, in Feb/2011, which is very close to where my daughter is located.

Question: Do you know of any vets in that area that handle reptiles (should it become necessary) and/or do you know how to contact that other person, in the hopes that they might know of vets in the area?

ANSWER: Hello Lisa,

I am sorry to hear that your daughter's dragon has a prolapse!
I am not real familiar with that, but here are a couple of links for vets in that area.

Gosh, she is 10 years old??  At her age, still laying infertile eggs is amazing.  She probably needs to be spayed but at her age I am not sure it would be a good idea.
Does she use UVB lighting & calcium on a regular basis also?

I can try to go through my messages to look for another vet if these don't work!
Is she keeping her warm at night too?

I can try to find some in Grand Prairie also, if you need.

QUESTION: Hi Tracie,
Thank you but Calgary is around 10 hours away.  I've looked online for animal hospitals in the Peace country, but haven't found anything for reptiles.  As I mentioned I wondered if the girl you spoke to with a dragon named "Vendetta" might know more.  She is located around 2 hours from my daughter.  Also because my daughter is just visiting, neither of us are very familiar with the services available.
Monster has been an egg laying fool, since she turned 5.  we had hoped she would start to feel embarrassed at her age, but so far she's pretty shameless!
When we took her in for the prolapse a year ago, she had all sorts of tests done; x-rays, poo analysis, conditions check and the vet was amazed at how healthy and well taken care of she is.  My daughter has loved Monster since she was 10 years old and truly can't do without her, so if there's any way you could find the owner of Vendetta and ask if she has knowledge of Peace country vets for reptiles, I would be very grateful.
Thank You
Lisa

Answer
Hello Lisa,

I have contacted the person & am waiting now for a response so I hope I hear from them soon.
I have not been able to find any vet, yet.  I looked on the map at your area & you are out & away!  I didn't realize it was so far from Calgary wow!
I hope she gets back to me soon.  I will let you know.

How is her dragon doing?  Any improvements?
That is something else, at 10, still laying eggs.  Poor girl though, but it seems that she is very healthy right now!  Do you have any pictures of her?
