QuestionI know, i've heard that leopard gecko's shouldn't have sand as a substrate but my leopard gecko is about 5 months old and is doing great with her reptile carpet. However, I only feed her meal worms every other day in a bowl. Could I use a layer of sand if I only feed her meal worms in a bowl?
AnswerHi Talon,
Even in a leos natural environment, they do not have sand...
What I use are ceramic tiles. They are set into a thin layer of children's play sand which is not accessible to my leos.
The sand and the tile distribute heat wonderfully.
I would never, nor do I ever recommend using any type of sand for a leo.
A very graphic site of an impacted leo surg can be seen at http://homepage.mac.com/exoticdvm/reptile/PhotoAlbum181.html it is very graphic!!!
