Veiled Chameleon Water

Question
I got a very young Veiled Chameleon I mist him 4 times a day and have a water dripper on top of his cage I never seem to see him drinking should I get one of those small reptile waterfall devices for moving water I don't want him dehydrated.

Answer
Hi Thomas, I would not bother with a water-fall for a veiled. Heavily cascading water is not something they would naturally encounter and I suspect it might be a bit frightening. Descending to the ground is also not natural for these highly arboreal animals. You are providing water in exactly the way that he would recognize and receive it in the wild. They drink from morning dew drops that accumulate on leaves, and rain when there is some. If you have only recently gotten this little veiled then it is not unusual at all for them to take about a week to settle into a new environment and start feeding, drinking and basking normally. They are very shy and have only camouflage as their defense so he may be a little hesitant to move and reveal his position while you (a potential predator!) are standing there. You are giving him plenty of opportunity to drink and I suspect he is taking some droplets once you have walked away.
