Question
QUESTION: My family was wondering if we should/could get male beardie from a petstore that usually only sells juveniles as a buddy for my 8 month old bearded dragon. Will they hurt each other?

ANSWER: Hi Cassie,
Beardies really do not need company and really do prefer to be alone.
Most times, when people try to add another beardie to an existing cage, there ends up being huge fights with one or both beardies getting hurt.  Sometimes it is possible to house two females together if they were from the same batch of eggs. Even then, they may get along for several months and then all of a sudden will start to fight badly. Males can never be kept together as they will fight til death. Males and females should never be kept together due to issues with breeding that will happen over and over at too young of ages and both will suffer greatly.  A single beardie is the best way to keep one...this way they will usually become more people friendly, seeking out human company/interaction.

QUESTION: will we be able to keep two bearded dragons in the same house but not the same enclosure?

Answer
Hi Cassie,
Yes, you can keep them in the same home but not the same enclosure. Each needs to have their own enclosure with proper temperatures, uvb lighting, diet, etc.  When it is a male and a female, it is recommended to have them in separate rooms though because the male will really stop eating and possibly get "breeding aggressive" when he can see the female.
Females will generally lay eggs even when they are not bred but sometimes keeping them out of sight and smell of a male can help prevent egging.
